It
wasn't quite the holidays without a little cold weather, but going
for a swim in the ocean at midnight on New Year's wasn't a bad way
to spend the evening either. Overall it was a fairly mellow evening
though there was some very sorry dancing done by a few of us to make
up for the fabulous Assiko dancers.
Beach
Bum!
It was a very spiff way to spend New Year's day sitting and
playing a few tunes on the beach before heading into the water for a
swim! Once we had the preliminaries out of the way Chris, a VSO
Nigeria, his brother Dave and myself headed into town to watch our
beloved Arsenal play Chelsea in the afternoon. It was a little more
tense than necessary but the lads pulled it through to extend their
lead at the top of the League. |

Top
Of the World, Ma!
A day and a half of climbing and we hit the summit of Mt.
Cameroon (4095m). We had a great time in spite of the hard
work....little did we know that we had barely begun! The journey
down was far tougher and longer than the journey up although the
reward at the end of the trip was the best tasting beer I have ever
had. For the full story and more pictures take a look here. |

Christmas
day we pulled our butts out of bed and had a nice little boat trip
over to a small island where we enjoyed a nice Christmas Day picnic.
There were a couple of fuzzy heads around from our late night
Christmas Eve but we managed to hold it together until evening....

Our
Christmas Eve began fairly mellow with some english folk dancing led
by Charlie, a VSO volunteer from the North of Cameroon. This led
into a little bit of guitar playing with Charlie, John, Leanne and
myself playing a few tunes. Things picked up a little after midnight
as a large group of us headed off to the Black & White nightclub
to really celebrate Christmas! Other than a brief moment where I did
my bit for Christmas Peace, Love and understanding by almost getting
in a scrap everyone had a blast and this led to.....
Christmas
Morning Swim
...swimming in the hotel pool at 5am. Here Jannigje, Russell and
I are splashing around, no doubt endearing ourselves to the other
guests. A small group of us made until sun up when bed finally
became too much of a draw and POOF! we hit the hay just as the sun
rose in the sky. |

Here
are a few of us all dressed up for a good time! Don't I look
smashing in my Bafut hat and Charles's North West outfit? I must get
one for myself!!

Well, if I had any sanity left 6 weeks in Lomie has surely ridden
me of that pesky nuisance. I am now free to be as mad as I want to
be. If you want details on many of the odd occurrences I have run
into there is an epic email under 'Archived Emails' at left. In
summary, there hasn't been much electricity and my little demon
kitty is the only thing that seems stable. I was pretty close to
packing up and coming home after 4 weeks of darkness but then I
figured what the heck, I can see the ugly mugs of my friends and
family anytime! |
